Many factors can influence the condition of jewelry. Therefore you should make sure that your jewelry is properly cleaned, repaired and stored.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Here are some basic guidelines to consider when wearing jewelry:

Please follow these steps to ensure your beautiful jewelry last a lifetime.

Wearing
Silver Jewelry will naturally tarnish over time. Always protect your jewelry from knocks, scratches, chemicals, sunlight and heat/cold to minimize these effects.

  • Remove Jewelry During Tasks – When performing manual tasks, remove your jewelry to prevent physical damage or exposure to chemicals or cleaning fluids. Some tasks that should be avoided when wearing jewelry include kitchen work, gardening, cleaning the house and other common tasks.
  • Put Jewelry On After Applying Makeup – Cosmetics, hairspray, perfumes and lotion can contain chemicals that can often damage jewelry. Putting jewelry on after applying these materials will limit exposure to jewelry and any potential damage.
  • Don't Wear Jewelry In Swimming Pools and Spas – Chlorinated water can react with the metals found in jewelry causing color changes and even structural damage. As a result it's a good idea to remove jewelry before entering the pool or spa.
  • Contact Sports and Jewelry Don't Mix– Hard blows during sports can damage jewelry not to mention the people involved. All jewelry should be removed before play begins.
  • Remove Your Jewelry Before Bathing
Remove all jewelry before showering or cleaning. Soap can cause a film to form, making it appear dull and dingy. By preventing the formation of this film you immediately reduce the occasions of servicing.

 Cleaning

Metal -
Using a soft, lint free cloth is an effective way to keep silver, 18ct yellow and rose gold vermeil jewelry looking shiny and lustrous. A silver cleaner can also be used to clean only sterling silver pieces. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean metal as they can cause scratching. Using warm water is the best bet when cleaning your own jewelry. Pour a small amount of mild soap into lukewarm water and use a small, soft toothbrush to clean your fine jewelry. Our Ellina's Treasures Jewelry purchase has a base metal of brass and is plated in either 14K Yellow Gold, 18K Yellow Gold, 14K Rose Gold or Silver. To ensure the product, plated jewelry should not be worn while swimming, bathing, exercising or when applying perfumes, lotions or hair products. To clean your plated jewelry, use a soft cloth and gently wipe (do not buff) the surface. Please do not use water, harsh chemicals, jewelry cleaners or jewelry cloths as they will affect the finish of the piece.

Gemstones -
Since many gemstones are quite delicate, hot water, harsh chemicals and cleaners should be avoided at all times. We advise cleaning your precious stones with a clean, soft, damp cloth after wearing. Very porous stones such as turquoise and emeralds should be cleaned using an untreated, dry, soft cloth only. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean gemstones as they can cause scratching.

Cord -
The best way to clean is to occasionally wash the cord with a mild soap in lukewarm water.

Enamel -
It is imperative to follow the care instructions for your Ellina's Treasures Enamel. To keep your enamel looking new and vibrant please keep it away from lotions, shampoos and cleansers. Avoid swimming in salt and chlorinated water, and heavy perspiration during exercise. Never Clean Enamel in ultrasonic jewelry cleaners or with ammonia based cleaners. Wipe clean with a damp gentle cloth only. Please take care not to drop your enamel pieces as this can cause chips or crack in the enamel.

Storing

Jewelry should be stored away from natural sunlight and heat- in a dark, cool and dry place, individually placed in a protective soft lined jewelry box or a tarnish-resistant pouch. When not wearing your piece, it is best to store in the provided pouch.

Please note that our ELLINA’S TREASURES gift boxes are not made for long-term storage as they are not airtight and tarnishing will occur over time.

Ellina's Treasures is not responsible for the maintenance or improper care of your jewelry.

Annual Service

Gold and silver are soft metals and become worn with use. This is true for all genuine jewelry. Depending on the degree of use, it is recommended that your jewelry be inspected at least once a year by a goldsmith. In particular, it is important that clasps, mounts, and soldering are checked.

All Repairs are on a case by case basis.
